The cantina otricolaia is a family-run micro-winery located in Otricoli (Terni), Umbria. Founded by Fabrizio Padua, a former IT professional passionate about the region, the winery focuses on an extremely limited, niche viticulture.
Vineyard Overview
Size & Elevation: It spans approximately one hectare of land at 300 meters above sea level.
Terrain: Characterized by steep slopes and a North-West exposure.
Vine Age: Features ancient vines that are over 50 years old.
Production Philosophy
Biodiversity: Rejects intensive farming in favor of natural biodiversity, retaining fruit trees directly between the rows of vines.
Management: Relies exclusively on copper, sulfur, and organic fertilizers.
Harvesting: The grape harvest is carried out entirely by hand.
Unique Aging Process
The Cave: The wine rests and ages inside a natural cave located beneath the parish rectory of the village.
Terroir History: This cool aging environment features prehistoric pebbles dating back to when the entire area was covered by the sea.
Primary Wines
Otricolaia Umbria Rosso: An artisanal blend of Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo, and Canaiolo. It ferments in French oak tonneaux and ages in large barrels. Production is extremely limited, yielding around 1,000 hand-numbered bottles per vintage.
Tufo d'Ocria Bianco: A white wine produced from Malvasia di Candia and Trebbiano Toscano grapes.
